The Book of Sand - Interactive Film

With The Book of Sand, we had the chance to be part of a project that truly pushed boundaries. This digital, interactive song cycle was written, directed, and composed by the endlessly inventive Michel van der Aa, who has built an international reputation for blending film, music, and technology into bold new forms.

Taking the lead was Australian mezzo-soprano Kate Miller-Heidke, whose powerful voice and captivating performance carry the audience through a surreal, multi-layered world. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges’ mysterious story The Book of Sand, the project combines cinema, contemporary music, and interactive design, giving viewers the unique power to influence the narrative as it unfolds.

Our role was to help bring Michel’s ambitious vision to the screen – supporting a production that seamlessly fuses live performance, striking visuals, and digital innovation.

The result is a groundbreaking piece that blurs the lines between film, opera, and interactive art, proving once again how storytelling can evolve in the digital age.
